A scooter famously gave Tom Hanks his mojo back when he starred as Larry Crowne in the 2011 film about life after layoffs. With the price of gas spiking over $4 a gallon, a ride that provides 120 miles to the gallon is looking tempting these days.

At Boca Scooters, helping people get back on the road in a more efficient way is all in a day’s work.

“A lot of people love their scooters. Every time there’s at spike in gas, sales go up,” says Boca Scooters, owner Colton Ralston. “I’ve been into two wheels and an engine my whole life. I was about 18 when I picked up my first scooter. It was a Yamaha Zuma, before that, I was into street and sport bikes, but I’ve always gotten around on my scooter. I love the overall efficacy of it. You can just hop on and go. There’s no car door slamming or a seatbelt beeping sound. It’s freedom. I’ve got my knees in the breeze.”

Growing up in a suburb of Boston, Ralston graduated high school and moved to Boca Raton to attend Lynn University. He graduated in 2004 and owns and operates his scooter shop boca raton selling scooters too many local college students.

“Scooters are very popular with local beach goers and students,” Ralston explains. “In terms of parking, you’re always up front. It’s the easiest most efficient way to park.”

“In terms of helping my customer evolve their riding game, I like to do that, too,” Ralston adds. “After they’ve been riding for a while, they often want to try something with more power.”

Ralston has been using scooters and motorcycles as primary transportation in South Florida for the past 12 years. He has a car but prefers the perks of two wheels. “I usually have 50 plus scooters and e-motos for sale and my stock runs the spectrum from base models to the most extravagant with all the bells and whistles.” he says.  “We’re a full service shop.”

Boca Scooters also offers customers the largest selection of helmets in the area. “Your helmet is your personality on the street,” Ralston points out. “If you’ve got a disco ball helmet or Captain America, it says a lot about your personality without saying anything.”

“Buying a helmet is like a pair of shoes- they all fit differently so you really have to try it on to make sure it fits right.  If you order one on the Internet, you can’t try it on.”

The downtown Boca Raton resident also feels strongly about supporting local businesses in the area, “I have friends all ever East Boca and I like to support local stores and events,” Ralston. says. “This is my home and I love it here. I cater to all the different personalities in the neighborhood, from college kids, snowbirds, older folks and to kids in recovery trying to get their lives back on track.”

Now known as “The Scooter Guy,” Ralston is happy to see his scooters all over downtown Boca. “I pride myself on setting the tone and setting the bar higher.  I’m always trying to evolve the business,” Ralston concludes. “I’ve been to every scooter shop in South Florida and I feel like our scooter shop boca raton is onto something here”
